O nitrato de amonio e cerio é un complexo vermello-laranxa altamente soluble en auga con forte oxidación. Úsase principalmente como catalizador e oxidante para a síntese orgánica, iniciador da reacción de polimerización e axente corrosivo para circuítos integrados. Como oxidante e iniciador, o nitrato de amonio e cerio ten as vantaxes dunha alta reactividade, boa selectividade, menor dosificación, baixa toxicidade e pouca contaminación.
